Contemporaries

Relations with contemporaries ranged from ambivalent to confrontational, depending on the level of contact that he had with them. Invariably, any contemporary with whom he had any contact or correspondence became an 'opponent', unless he was one of the few who followed him.

It is worth noting that none of his contemporaries who had any standing in the literary, religious, social or political spheres of the time, had anything good to say about him during his lifetime.
